Lethbridge and District Pro Rodeo returns Aug. 22-24

One of Whoop-Up Days’ signature events is the Lethbridge and District Pro Rodeo Aug. 22-24.

The event has become a must-stop for some of the sport’s biggest stars, as they pursue spots in both the National Finals Rodeo and Canadian Finals Rodeo.

Relay Races are also a part of every performance, with Lethbridge being the only pro rodeo in Canada to feature this exciting addition. Often referred to as “North America’s original extreme sport” -riders race bareback in laps around a track and exchange horses after every lap by jumping from one horse to another. The races have been a part of Indigenous life for hundreds of years.

“With the inclusion of the Relay Races, it’s really a two-for-one ticket for an event that showcases both Western and Indigenous cultures,” says Kynan Vine, executive producer. “We’ve built this rodeo into one that competitors are excited to attend and it features some of the fiercest competition you’ll find in Canada.”

With roughstock once again provided by the legendary Duane Kesler Championship Rodeo Stock, competitors are set up to score big and earn important dollars that help them qualify for both the NFR and CFR.

The entry list for the Lethbridge and District Pro Rodeo is a true “who’s who of Canadian rodeo,” headlined by four-time World Saddle Bronc Champion Zeke Thurston.

Others confirmed for the Lethbridge and District Pro Rodeo include Canadian and Calgary Stampede champion bull riders Jared Parsonage and Jordan Hansen, four-time Canadian Steer Wrestling champion Scott Guenther, reigning Canadian Barrel Racing champion Lynette Brodoway, 14-time NFR Tie Down Roping qualifier Shane Hanchey, former World Champion team ropers Jeremy Buhler and Levi Simpson and two-time Canadian Breakaway Roping champion Kendal Pierson.

Blackfoot Confederacy celebration night will be held Aug. 22. The evening will highlight Blackfoot culture and include special presentations and performances.

Don’t miss Family Night Aug. 23, presented by 94.1 CJOC and 98.1 The Ranch and Agriculture Community Night Aug. 24.
