Those driving through the Taber area are being reminded of the rules of the road when it comes to tinting vehicle windows.
According to the Taber Police Service, officers have seen an increase in the number of vehicles with illegally tinted windows. This includes window glazing on a vehicle’s windshield or on the front door windows of a vehicle that is according to law, “beside or forward of the driver with a transparent, translucent or opaque material.”
Part of the reasons for the laws on window tints is to reduce any potential safety and visibility hazards, while also improving the line of sight for drivers, improving driving conditions – “especially night driving.”
According to officials, “Illegal tint prevents police officers from reading a driver’s intentions or identifying certain drivers.”
Police say officers will be paying special attention to vehicles equipped with illegal tint and drivers of those vehicles could be issued a violation ticket, a Traffic Violation Notice to remove the tint or both.
In extreme cases, the vehicle will be removed from the road until the tint is removed, as a safety precaution.
