This week, Phillips revealed on social media that she is joining the University of Lethbridge’s (U of L) roster of adjunct professors in the Department of Political Science.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back to the City of Lethbridge and the post-secondary community that makes Southern Alberta a vibrant place to live,” Phillips stated on X, formerly known as Twitter.
MyLethbridgeNow reached out to the U of L for further clarification on her new role.
The post-secondary explains that adjunct professors are non-salaried individuals, and their activities could include being a guest lecturer, student mentor, research partner or whatever the Faculty or School is looking for.
The full statement from the local institution reads as follows:
“The University is pleased to welcome Shannon Phillips to our community of adjunct professors.
Adjunct appointments allow faculty members from other universities, qualified individuals from organizations or professional bodies or those with cultural expertise to participate in research, teaching or mentorship activities on our campuses. These individuals are uniquely qualified in their professional or cultural fields, and generously lend their time and expertise to contribute to our Faculties and Schools.
These perspectives add to the breadth and depth of experience at ULethbridge and benefit faculty and students alike.
Ms. Phillips’ extensive work in the political arena will provide unique insight and only enhance the exceptional activities being undertaken in the Department of Political Science.”
Phillips’ resignation as the NDP MLA for Lethbridge-West means a by-election will take place. Both Bridget Mearns and Rob Miyashiro have announced their intention to run.
