Progress is being made on the combining of major crops in Alberta.
According to the latest crop report from Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation, harvest is 55 per cent complete. Conditions are listed as of September 10, 2024.
The weekly report notes completion is ahead of both the five and 10-year averages of 32 and 28 per cent, respectively.
Officials say hot weather during the growing season, followed by dry conditions during the harvest, have helped combining progress well ahead of historical averages in each region.
Combining is 72 per cent complete in the South Region, which leads all listed areas in Alberta. The five-year average for the south is 59 per cent.
Following the south is the Central Region at 66 per cent, the Northeast and Northwest at 42 per cent and the Peace Region at 37 per cent.
The report listed dry peas at the top of the pack, at 97 per cent harvested. Lentils followed at 88 per cent, durum at 72 per cent, barley at 71 per cent and spring wheat at 70 per cent.
Chickpeas were next at 67 per cent, mustard at 62 per cent, oats at 42 per cent, canola at 21 per cent, flax at 19 per cent and potatoes at nine per cent.
