Self-cleaning washroom in downtown Lethbridge to be removed

The self-cleaning washroom in downtown Lethbridge is set to be removed.

The Crabb Street washroom opened in the summer of 2016 to address the need for an accessible public washroom near the former transit hub.

Public washrooms are now available at the new Lethbridge Regional Park ‘n’ Ride Transit Terminal so the facility on 6th street and 4th avenue south is no longer needed.

The City says higher than expected maintenance costs and low volume of use are also factors in the decision to decommission the washroom from its existing location.

It’ll be placed in storage while other options for its use are explored.

A crane will be on site early Thursday morning to facilitate the removal of the structure.

Workers will be on site throughout the day though and the sidewalk will be barricaded with pedestrian detours in place.

Both motorists and pedestrians are asked to use caution in the area.
