Lethbridge Police are investigating a suspicious package left in the Silkstone area of the west side’s Copperwood neighbourhood.

It was discovered at a residence along Silkstone Point.

Officers say roads in the immediate vicinity have been closed as a safety precaution and members of the public are asked to avoid the area until further notice.

The Lethbridge School Division says students at Coalbanks Elementary who live in the Silkstone area are being kept at the school until a family member can pick them up.

No students or families are being permitted into the area near where the package was found until it is cleared by police.

The City of Lethbridge also says due to road closures in the Silkstone area, school buses servicing the neighbourhood will be returning children to their school and the school will contact parents with more information.
