New superintendent named for Holy Spirit Catholic School Division

The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division has a new superintendent.

Chantel Axani will start in the role in November.

Axani comes to Lethbridge after 18 years at the Lakeland Catholic School Division. Holy Spirit says she served as a teacher, administrator and most recently as deputy superintendent. Axani is the current vice president of the Council of Catholic School Superintendents of Alberta. Holy Spirit says she has played a crucial role in shaping the lives of over 2,700 students across Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche and Weskatenau.

“Chantel has a distinguished record of school and school division leadership in Catholic education,” says Holy Spirit board chair Carmen Mombourquette.

“Of particular note is Chantel’s commitment to the faith and the ways in which it forms the basis of her leadership style.”

Axani received her Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and a Master’s of Education from the University of Calgary.

“I am deeply humbled and excited to serve the students, staff and families of Holy Spirit Catholic School Division,” says the incoming superintendent.

“I am honored to work alongside the Senior Administration team to continue to provide an excellent and faith filled education for all students.”

Axani replaces Ken Sampson, who announced his resignation in May 2024. Dr. Scott Morrison has been serving as interim superintendent since Sampson’s departure.
