Four teens are facing charges in connection to an incident back in September that sent a 16-year-old to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to Lethbridge Police Service officials, just after 1 a.m. on September 8th first responders responded to a report of the teen being injured following an assault. The incident is reported to have happened in the 2500 block of 13th Street North, where the victim is said to have been walking in the area when he was confronted by the group of teens who are said to have attacked him with weapons, including a baton. According to a statement from officials, “He was also threatened with what appeared to be a handgun.”
Police investigated the incident, reviewing CCTV footage, cell phone and social media videos. Officers are said to have determined this was a targeted incident, with the group having been motivated by a previous incident.
Three of the teens were arrested on November 13th and the fourth was arrested on November 20th. Police also are reported to have executed a search warrant at a home on the northside where a BB gun and clothing believed to have been worn by one of the suspects during the assault were seized.
The four teens range in age from 15 to 17 years old and are all facing charges for aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public and use of a firearm while committing an offence.
Three of the suspects have been released with conditions with the fourth waiting for a Judicial Interim Release hearing. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act the names of the accused cannot be released.
