If you enjoyed a provincial park in Alberta in 2024, you were one of millions to do so.
Alberta Parks says over 228,000 camping reservations were processed last year, with about 2.3 million visitors embracing nature with an overnight stay in reservable camping spaces. The province adds user satisfaction remained high. Information officers, interpreters and park rangers recorded over 670,000 interactions with visitors in 2024.
“I’m incredibly proud of our provincial parks system which continues to support outdoor recreation, conservation goals and good-paying jobs for Albertans. Our parks remain accessible while providing so many people with the chance to experience our beautiful backyard,” says Todd Loewen, Minister of Forestry and Parks.
The government says it continues to work on developing new campsites and visitor experiences. Last year, Albertans explored the newly established Kleskun Hills Provincial Park and La Biche River Provincial Recreation Area.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Last year, the province launched its ‘Plan for Parks’ public engagement process. The plan will guide the priorities for recreation and conservation for the next decade.
The next phase of public engagement is set for this year.
Alberta boasts over 470 provincial parks and recreation areas. The government adds that parks in the province contribute an estimated $1 billion each year to the provincial GDP, $400 million in labour income, and support close to 9,000 jobs for Albertans.
