Little Lethbridge Opera Theatre and the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra presents “Fiddler on the Roof.”
Music Director Glenn Klassen says there’s already been such an incredible response from the community. “Even going back to September, when we had auditions. There was so much interest and an incredible slate of talented people auditioning to be part of the show.”
“We’ve landed up with a cast of something like 60, so it’s a strong cast. It’s going to be a spectacular event,” adds Klassen.
One of the things that’s always intrigued Klassen about “Fiddler on the Roof” has been its longevity.
“It came out in 1964. It was immediately recognized,” notes Klassen. “There’s a reason why ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ has been so popular since it opened on Broadway. It’s not just in North America – it’s around the world.”
Klassen says “Fiddler on the Roof” is almost a household name. “Almost everybody has heard about it. Most people would recognize several of the tunes if they were sung or hummed to them. The music aspect of it is so strong – that’s one of the biggest drawing cards why this particular production has been so successful over the years.”
From a conductor point of view, Klassen explains, when you’re dealing with a great score to begin with, it’s a real joy to make sure you can capture every element of it. “And do the absolute best with the forces you have in front of you. That’s where the joy and fun comes.”
Klassen says there are 32 orchestra players in the production.
The show runs Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee at 2 p.m. Feb. 1 at Southminster United Church.
