Lethbridge County is reminding all residents to make sure their controlled burns are completely out.
The notice comes as the region has seen warmer and windier conditions over the past few days. The County asks anyone who has done a controlled burn within the last two weeks to consider returning to the burn site to make sure nothing is smoldering and they do not see any smoke.
Officials add that on Thursday, February 27, crews responded to a fire south of Lethbridge that may have been caused from a weeks-old controlled burn that reignited due to strong wind gusts. The County says there were no injuries or damages to property reported.
Additionally, a fire advisory was issued for Lethbridge County earlier this week in light of the conditions brought on by Mother Nature.

Fire permits are still being issued, but burning is not allowed if wind gusts hit over 25 km/h, and water has to be on-site at all times.
“When your burn is complete, please soak, stir, and soak again as many times as necessary to ensure it is fully extinguished. It’s a good idea to check back in the days afterward for any signs of smoldering,” the County says in a news release.
Depending on how conditions change, officials say the fire advisory could be modified to a fire restriction or ban. Further details on fire advisories, restrictions and bans are available at the Lethbridge County website.
