Southern Alberta Self-Help Association’s vision is to ensure individuals with severe and/or persistent mental illness have a safe space, the capabilities to be successful and recognize their own value and contributions to their communities.
“SASHA provides far more than just a bed to our clients. Our homes are recovery focused, all programming is client-centered and client driven,” notes the organization.
A team of multidisciplinary staff work with the client to assess needs, develop an Individual Service Plan for their stay at SASHA, and provide the guidance and direction needed to help clients recover and re-establish themselves in the community.
Staff support is available 24 hours a day and lengths of stay in the transitional program vary from a few months up to a year. Long-term clients stay as long as the program can meet their needs.
“SASHA programming is focused on providing supports to empower our clients to make healthy choices towards the goals they set for themselves, while also developing skills and practices for group and independent living,” adds the organization.
SASHA has been a sanctuary for so many clients, offering a safe and supportive environment to heal and thrive. Unfortunately, due to a change in funding, the organization is at risk of losing one of four homes.
“While we want to reassure no client will be left without a roof over their head, there is a very real possibility they may be forced to uproot their lives and move to a new home. For individuals facing mental health challenges, stability is essential for recovery. Disrupting their sense of security by moving them from one home to another can be incredibly destabilizing, hindering the progress they’ve made,” says the organization.
SASHA is looking for financial assistance with #BuyaBed to ensure clients continue to have the stable housing they need to heal, grow and succeed. The funds would fully support a client’s programming, meals and housing for a day.
