Grade 8 teacher receives Holy Spirit School Division’s Edwin Parr Award nomination

A first-year teacher at St. Francis Junior High School has been selected as Holy Spirit School Division’s Edwin Parr Award nominee.

Carly Spoulos graduated from the University of Lethbridge and completed her third practicum at St. Francis Junior High School in 2023.

Spoulos returned to St. Francis, after her first teaching job at Medicine Hat High School.

This past fall, Spoulos returned to St. Francis, where she received her probationary contract teaching Grade 8 Science and Math and options. She also enjoys coaching volleyball and badminton.

“Carly is an exceptional first-year teacher,” says Principal Jackie Kraemer. “She brings a level of energy and genuine care for her students, consistently creating learning experiences that are meaningful and relevant to all learners. Whether she is leading students through dynamic art projects, creating murals to revitalize the school or integrating real-world connections into Science and Math, all students feel seen, inspired and challenged. Carly is a valued coach and committed member of many of our committees.”

Deputy Superintendent Anthea Boras adds Spoulos’ lessons are engaging, creative and thoughtfully designed to challenge students to work to the best of their abilities. “She is a true asset to our division.”

Spoulos says becoming a teacher has been a lifelong dream. “The support, encouragement and kindness from the entire St. Francis Junior High community has shaped my growth as an educator and made my first year truly special.”
