Lethbridge’s unemployment sees slight jump from February to March 

The unemployment rate in Lethbridge last month did not see a major shift from the previous month.  

According to Statistics Canada, the Lethbridge Census Metropolitan Area’s jobless rate was 5.1 per cent in March. That was a slight increase of 0.1 per cent from February. 

The jobless rates for the other Census Metropolitan Areas in Alberta listed by Statistics Canada are as follows: 

  • Red Deer: 8.5 per cent (down from 9.6 in February) 
  • Calgary: 7.2 per cent (down from 7.3 in February) 
  • Edmonton: 7.2 per cent (up from 7.1 in February) 

Province-wide, Alberta’s unemployment rate was 7.1 per cent, up from 6.7 in February.

CANADA’S UNEMPLOYMENT 

Nationally, the unemployment rate was 6.7 per cent in March, compared to 6.6 in February. Statistics Canada says the country lost 33,000 jobs. 

Officials say that was the biggest loss since January 2022.
