City warns community of Lethbridge Transit Fare Card scam

There’s a payment scam circulating on Facebook regarding purchasing an ‘unlimited travel smartcard,’ according to the City of Lethbridge.

The Facebook profile, Public transport in Lethbridge, has two posts that have been shared offering the fraudulent smartcards if users click a link and enter their credit card information.

The page and posts have been reported to Facebook and the City has commented on the posts to help alert Facebook users to the fraudulent offer. You’re encouraged to report and block the page.

Any Lethbridge Transit information regarding Fare Cards can be found at lethbridge.ca/transit.

If you or someone you know would like to learn more about how to spot digital scams, the City’s Building Safer Communities team, in partnership with Lethbridge Police Service, introduced a cyber safety resource last fall.

The Online Safety Toolkit is a one-stop shop for information about technology, social media, cyberbullying and cybersecurity that applies to people of all ages. Families and communities can instantly access a collection of helpful tips and useful tools to improve their understanding of the digital world and promote responsible digital citizenship.
