Seniors’ Week is being celebrated in Lethbridge at LSCO’s 12th Annual Live Well Showcase June 5-6.
Organizers expect an attendance of 2,000 participants of mostly seniors aged 50-plus and their families with over 70 vendors and a variety of captivating presentations, including Strengthening the Aging Brain and A Beautiful Legacy: Legacies, Charitable Giving and Tax Benefits.
The Live Well Showcase holds special significance this year, as it coincides with the LSCO’s 50th anniversary in July.
Executive Director Kaitlynn Weaver says the Live Well Showcase is Alberta’s biggest seniors’ trade show for active living. “To connect with local businesses and supports, and to learn about what the LSCO is all about.”
Weaver believes it’s important to have a one-stop shop for information, resources, supports and services for seniors. “And to give the community the opportunity, both non-profit and businesses as well as departments in the City of Lethbridge, to showcase what they’re doing for seniors.”
“We’ve heard a lot from vendors in the past about how grateful they are for an event such as this because not everybody will know if a business does support seniors in a specific way. But they get a chance to chat with the owners or people at the booth. And they get to learn about what they do to support seniors.”
It’s also great, Weaver notes, because community members, businesses and non-profits get to connect with LSCO and to each other.
“It’s going to be fun and energetic, which really speaks to that active aging mentality woven within the event,” Weaver says.
Admission and parking are free for the two-day event. The showcase runs Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information visit online at lethseniors.com.
