New app encourages people to Explore Lethbridge

A new app has launched to help showcase the city to not only visitors but locals as well.

The Explore Lethbridge web app does not need to be downloaded which is said to make it more accessible to users. The app’s launch includes a curated experience called Sip, Taste,
Explore, which will help users check out culinary hotspots in Lethbridge, local attractions, shops, and outdoor spaces throughout the city.

According to Senior Director of Communications Dominika Wojcik, the organization decided to move forward with developing its own app after a number of existing ones were not meeting their needs.

“We’ve used several third-party tools over the years, but none gave us the flexibility or insights we needed,” Wojcik says. “We realized we needed a tool that was ours, something we could build around Lethbridge’s unique offerings, update as we grow, and use to better engage visitors in real-time.”

The Explore Lethbridge app is interactive with the opportunity to check in at participating
locations, allowing the user to earn points which can be redeemed at the Visitor Information Centre for prizes.

The app was developed in collaboration with Assistant Professor at the University of Lethbridge Dr. Sidney Shapiro, with funding support from Mitacs, which according to a release from Tourism Lethbridge is “a national organization that fosters innovation through academic-industry partnerships.”

The app also allows Tourism Lethbridge to collect data that will help them identify visitor interests, geographic trends, and movement patterns. This information will be used in the future for marketing campaigns and guide strategic planning.
