Town of Coaldale committed to moving forward with new Multi-Use Recreation Centre

Coaldale Town Council says it’s committed to moving forward with a Multi-Use Recreation Centre in that community.

The plan was to build a joint high school and rec centre however funding for a new school in Coaldale wasn’t among the projects included in Alberta Budget 2019.

Still, Coaldale Mayor Kim Craig says they’ll be going ahead with the rec centre as the facility will be designed and built in such a manner that will allow a future high school to be attached to it.

He says it would be preferable to have both the school and recreation facility built at the same time but the Town has funds in place to take the rec centre to full design and construction.

Craig says the Town will continue to engage residents and stakeholders on what amenities the facility ultimately includes.

The Town of Coaldale says it also will continue to work toward the implementation of safety enhancements along the Highway 3 corridor.

Craig says the Town is working with other agencies, Alberta Transportation and CP Rail, to ensure proper safety measures are in place by the time a new school and recreation facility are open.

In order to accommodate growth on both the north and south sides of Coaldale, various infrastructure upgrades are needed.

They include, but aren’t limited to, signal lights at Highway 3 and 30th street, fencing along the Highway 3 corridor and a lower speed limit along some stretches.

Craig says in order to accommodate growth on both sides of Highway 3, these transportation safety upgrades are required.
