Lethbridge contingent heading to conversion therapy ban rally at legislature

A Lethbridge contingent will be at the Alberta Legislature Thursday (June 6) protest the UCP government’s cancellation of a conversion therapy ban working group.

Former NDP Health Minister Sarah Hoffman established the group in February and gave members five months to come up with advice on how to end the practice but it was disbanded after the election.
Co-President of the YQueerL Society for Change, Devon Hargreaves, says he’ll be heading up to Edmonton to take part in the noon-hour rally on the Alberta Legislature Grounds.
He says it appears the new UCP government is hindering progress on any work that had been done on a conversion therapy ban and Albertans aren’t going to settle for it, adding it’s 2019 and time to “wake up and get with the times.”
Hargreaves will also be armed with copies of a letter for people to sign in support of the Senate Bill S-260 to ban conversion therapy, tabled by Senator Serge Joyal on April 9, 2019.
The rally is being organized by the Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group (LPIRG) and YQueerL Society for Change.
