One impaired driving sanction issued by Lethbridge Police during check stop

LETHBRIDGE, AB –  A number of tickets were handed out by Lethbridge Police during holiday season check stops this past weekend.

LPS say the volume of traffic passing through Saturday (Dec. 12) was actually consistent with previous years, even despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Officers issued one impaired driving sanction under the new provincial laws that came into effect on December 1st.

In addition, one driver refused to stop at the Check Stop and another was found to be a suspended driver.

There were also eight violation tickets:

  • learner drive with no supervisor (2);
  • expired licence plate; drivers licence not in possession (2);
  • drive without subsisting licence (2);
  • and cannabis within easy access

While the Lethbridge Police Service says it’s pleased to take dangerous drivers off the road and ensure a safer drive for everyone else, we are hoping the message gets out to everyone, and drivers will make alternate plans to get home if they have been consuming alcohol or drugs.
