Burning restrictions issued across southern Alberta as extreme heat ramps up

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Things are drying out very fast with this extreme heat and that’s once again quickly increasing the risk of wildfires.

There’s now a Fire Ban in Lethbridge County. All open fires within municipal boundaries are prohibited and all active fire permits are cancelled. Fireworks are also not permitted.

You can still use a gas or propane barbecue, stove or heater.

The County is one of several municipalities to impose a ban or restriction due to this extreme heat.

Fire restrictions have been issued for the MD of Willow Creek, Vulcan County, and the County of Newell while fire advisories are in effect for the Calgary Forest Area which includes the Crowsnest Pass as well as the MD of Pincher Creek.

Fire officials say there’s a very high risk of fires spreading rapidly during windy conditions with plenty of dry, dead grass.

For more information you can visit the Alberta fire bans website.
