LETHBRIDGE, AB – A new community initiative aims to start every kid off on the right foot when school starts next fall.
The goal of Shoes for Kids YQL: Stepping into the Future, One Sole at a Time is to collect at least 200 new pairs of runners for Lethbridge kids in need.
Organizers say new shoes can change a child’s life. They allow kids to go to school with dignity and joy while preparing them to learn, play and thrive.
The initiative is being coordinated by Connecting our Community Lethbridge, with the support of the local branches of Royal Bank Canada, the Lethbridge Police Service, Blood Tribe Police and the Piikani Nation RCMP Detachment.
Through the support of law enforcement partners in Brocket and Standoff, a corresponding number of children in those communities will hopefully get new shoes as well.
The shoe drive will take place August 14 from 10am to 1pm at parking lot N at Lethbridge College.
Shoes in kid’s to adult sizes will be accepted and volunteers will be on hand to accept monetary donations as well.
