SOUTHERN AB – RCMP are issuing a warning for southern Alberta following multiple reports of extortion over social media in this region.
In most cases, victims will get a friend request from an unknown woman and they will end up sending nude photos to the suspect. The suspect will then demand money, or threaten to send the nude images to the victim’s friends and family.
Police says it’s common for the suspect to be friends with the victim’s close contacts to prove that they can follow through with the threat.
If you’re targeted by this kind of extortion, police urge you to not accept friend requests from people you don’t know, never send nude images, stop the conversation if they demand money, do not comply with the threats, make sure to keep all the messages and report the incident to police right away.
