Pet Ball Python escapes from owners in Raymond

RAYMOND, AB – There’s a pet snake on the loose in Raymond.

The Town says a four-foot black and brown ball python has gotten away from its owners near the corner of 200 block West and 100 North.

If you see it, you’re asked to stay calm and exercise caution as ball pythons are non-venomous and fairly docile unless agitated.

Pythons are a constrictor breed-type, but are considered incapable of killing a human (child or adult) because of their small size. They eat birds and small rodents, but can go for long periods of time without eating.

Anyone spotting the snake can call the Ridge Regional Public Safety Services at 587-813-0791 and a staff member will collect it and return it to its owners.

Residents are also reminded to ensure that all pets – livestock, domestic household pets or otherwise – are secured properly within your household or on your property.
