New Forest Management Agreement in place for area west of Lethbridge

SPRAY LAKE, AB – A new forest management agreement has been struck between the provincial government and Crowsnest Forest Products Ltd.

It’s the first new FMA Alberta has entered into since 2009.

The 20-year agreement gives Crowsnest Forest Products the right to establish, grow, harvest and remove timber on Crown land west of Lethbridge.

It also comes with legal obligations like the development of forest management plans. FMA holders must plant two trees for every tree felled.

The 3,511 square kilometres covered by the new FMA excludes the Castle Provincial Park.

Government officials say the agreement means long-term investment, and secure and sustainable fibre access in southern Alberta which ensures years of reliable forest management , stable, good-paying jobs and millions in economic contributions.
