Taber Corn hitting stands across Southern Alberta this week

TABER, AB – Southern Alberta’s sweet summer treat will soon be on a stand near you.

The first cut of Taber Corn is being harvested this week, making it one of the earliest crops in years.

Joe Johnson, With Johnson Fresh Farms in Taber says the heat this summer, especially early on in the growing season, along with a lot of irrigation has put this year’s crop ahead of schedule. He says they didn’t think the first cut would be ready until early in August, but the weather really pushed things along.

“The corn loves the heat,” says Johnson.

This year, local corn crops have been fortunate to have dodged any significant hail storms too, which has helped things overall.

You might have noticed stands already set up in the usual spots around Lethbridge, Taber, Coaldale and few other locations around the area.

The first corn will likely be for sale by Wednesday.
