Possible chemical leak at campground in Fort Macleod under investigation

FORT MACLEOD, AB – A number of people at a Fort Macleod campground fell ill after being exposed to a possible chemical.

Paramedics from across the region were called out this past Sunday to the Fish and Game Campground, along with RCMP after receiving reports that several folks were having trouble breathing.

Six people were looked at on scene and three others were taken by EMS to local hospitals.

Mounties says it’s been determined there may have been a chemical leak from an unknown source.

The Fort Macleod Fire Department did some investigation and no contaminants were found in the campground or surrounding area. Air quality tests indicated that any hazardous material had dissipated and then area was deemed to be safe.

RCMP are now asking for anyone who may have information on this, regrading suspicious vehicles in the area or possible sources for the chemical leak to give them a call.
