Grass fire forces evacuation of Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump site

FORT MACLEOD, AB – A grass and structure fire at Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump, west of Fort Macleod, Thursday afternoon (Aug. 5) is now under control.

Pictures posted to Twitter and Facebook earlier in the day show charred grass up near the interpretive centre building with the fire still burning near the bottom of a hill.

Visitors say they were evacuated from the site. Fire crews remain on scene at this time. However, RCMP say no injuries were reported and traffic is not being impacted.

Police are investigating what sparked the blaze, but it’s not believed to be suspicious.
