The Helen Schuler Nature Centre is getting a new outdoor classroom space.
A total of seven community partners have contributed $221,000 for the project which includes a $100,000 donation from South Country Co-op through its Community Spaces grant program.
Nature Centre Resource Development Coordinator, Curtis Goodman, says the current outdoor amphitheatre is showing its age, having been built alongside the original building back in the early 1980s.
He says it’s uncomfortable, undersized and isn’t set up in the proper way for the type of programming the centre is doing today.
The new space will boast improved accessibility for people with mobility devices and an increased capacity to accommodate the programs and classes taking place.
Construction on the new outdoor classroom is set to begin early next year with completion pegged for the end of Summer 2020.
