LETHBRIDGE, AB – A charity hockey game is in the works, pitting City of Lethbridge Staff against their Community Partners to raise money for local food banks.
Mayor Blaine Hyggen will be strapping on his goalie pads for the City team over at the ATB Centre on Saturday, December 18th.
He says spectators are asked to bring donations of winter clothing and non-perishable food items while monetary donations can be made online.
“We held a similar event in 2015 benefitting various local charities, so I thought this is the right time to revive a version of it” says Hyggen.
Lethbridge’s food banks, including those at the college and university, and the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen will benefit from the event.
Representatives from 94.1 CJOC/98.1 2Day FM will be part of the Community Partners team along with several other local media outlets, businesses and organizations.
Entry requirements to the ATB Centre will fall under the AHS Restrictions Exemption Program.
Meanwhile, food banks across the province have reported a 30-percent spike in users, on average, since 2019 and many are lacking supplies and money heading into the holiday season.
The Alberta Motor Association is rallying its nearly one-million members right across the province to lend their support.
Over the next six weeks, the AMA Fill Our Fleet initiative will be hosting food drives, drive-thru events, community collection bins, online donations and more to help out as much as they can.
