No Omicron cases in Alberta yet, but Kenney says we should prepare for its “eventual arrival”

EDMONTON, AB – Alberta has yet to detect any cases of the new COVID-19 Omicron variant.

Two people in Ontario tested positive over the weekend becoming Canada’s first known cases.

Premier Jason Kenney says 156 travelers returned to this province in the past two weeks from the southern African countries identified in Canada’s enhanced border measures.

He says none of them have tested positive for the variant, adding Alberta’s screening measures are very thorough.

Kenney says the province has been screening all positive samples of COVID-19 for the new variant, and all other known variants, and so far no Omicron cases have been detected.

He says you can prepare for the “eventual arrival” of the Omicron variant by getting vaccinated and continuing to follow public health measures around COVID-19.
