Mandatory safer workplace training implemented within Lethbridge Police Service

LETHBRIDGE, AB – All employees and volunteers of the Lethbridge Police Service must now complete mandatory training designed to deal with bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination in the work place.

The LPS has joined forces with Respect Group which is an organization co-founded by former NHLer turned victims’ rights crusader Sheldon Kennedy.

“Programs are one thing, making them a requirement for all members of the organization is about leadership and accountability” says Kennedy.

“Respect is one of the Service’s core values and it must be a cornerstone of our organization. We all want to work in a place we feel valued and safe and this is an important step forward as we work together to strengthen our culture and enhance organizational health. “ – Shahin Mehdizadeh, Lethbridge Chief of Police

The LPS training will consist of a 90 minute online course that all staff must complete by early next year.

Follow-up modules in a face-to-face setting will also be part of a four-year certification commitment.

Respect Group has certified over 1.7 million Canadians to date.
