Car explosion at Medicine Hat Walmart kills one; not believed to be criminal

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) confirms that a man has died following a serious incident at the Walmart in that city.

According to the Medicine Hat News, emergency crews responded to the store’s parking lot just before 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 8), where witnesses say a car had exploded and was fully engulfed in flames.

It’s believed that the man was inside the vehicle at the time and died due to his injuries. Police are not releasing any further details about the victim, out of respect for his friends and family.

No one else was hurt.

The MHPS Major Crimes Section is still investigating was caused the explosion, but it’s not believed to be criminal in nature.
