Threats force closure of two Lethbridge schools; police say no evidence of immediate risk

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It appears two threats at separate city high schools Tuesday were not connected.

Just after 8am on Dec. 14, Lethbridge Police responded to a report that a threat was received electronically by Winston Churchill High School.

Staff and students were sent home for the day and the school was closed.

Just before noon, threatening statements were found on school property at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute.

Remaining classes were cancelled and students were evacuated.

Lethbridge Police say officers searched both schools but found no evidence to suggest any risk to students or staff.

Both investigations are ongoing though as police look to identify the person or persons responsible for the threats.

They don’t believe the two incidents are related.

Classes are expected to resume on Wednesday.
