BARONS, AB – A train derailment near Barons has forced the closure of a section of Highway 23.

Picture Butte RCMP and local firefighters were called to the scene around 9:30am Wednesday, Dec. 29 near Township Road 120.

An engine derailed and a few empty fuel cars tipped over.

There were no injuries and there is no danger to the public but officials say diesel fuel is leaking from the engine.

Highway 23 around the derailment site is expected to be closed for several hours.

Northbound traffic is being rerouted at Township Road 114 and southbound traffic is being rerouted at Township Road 120.
