Lethbridge’s yearly Christmas tree collection set for January 15

LETHBRIDGE, AB – If you had a real Christmas tree this season, Lethbridge’s annual tree collection takes place Saturday.

For the past 28 years, the city has partnered up with youth groups to collect trees after each holiday season.

Since this program began, more than 80,000 Christmas trees have been diverted from the city landfill and turned into environmentally-friendly mulch.

Any trees should be stripped of all decorations and placed outside by your regular garbage location by 7:00 am Saturday for pick-up.

If you miss the January 15th collection, you can still take any real Christmas trees to be composted to the Waste and Recycling Centre.

This year, Senator Buchanan Elementary School will be doing the collection with family and volunteers to support their fundraising activities. Youth groups interested in participating in future collections are encouraged to contact Waste & Recycling Services to find out details on making a submission.
