Calgary man arrested, accused of pointing gun at Lethbridge party

A 22-year old man is back in Lethbridge after being arrested in Ontario, in relation to an incident where he alleged pointed a gun at multiple people last fall.

On October 28, 2018, Lethbridge Police say a fight broke out during a party at a community hall along the 600 block of 21 Street South. As it was being broken up, the suspect pulled a pistol from his waistband and pointed it at people in the crowd.

The group dispersed and the man hid under a nearby vehicle. When a witness found him to ask if he was okay, the suspect again pointed the weapon at them and another group of people. He fled the scene shortly after.

An arrest warrant was issued after the man couldn’t be located by Lethbridge Police. Abshir Mohamed Adiid, 22 of Calgary, was arrested by the Ottawa Police Service on June 26 and returned to Alberta.

He is charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. Adiid has been released on bail, and is expected in court on July 31.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
