Alberta Justice Minister phone call to be investigated by retired judge

EDMONTON, AB – The investigation into a phone call made by Alberta Justice Minister Kaycee Madu to Edmonton Police Chief Dale McFee will be under the charge of retired Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta Justice Adèle Kent.

The investigation, initiated by Premier Jason Kenney, will look at the circumstances surrounding a phone call from Madu to Chief McFee after the Minister received a traffic ticket on March 10th, 2021, and will determine is the call constituted interference or an attempt to interfere with the administration of justice. Justice Kent will also look at whether or not the call created a reasonable perception of interference with the administration of justice.

The provincial government is requesting findings of the report to be returned to the Deputy Minister of Executive Council by no later than February 15th, 2022.
