Local unemployment rate falls for first time in months

For the first time in well over half a year, this area is seeing a slight decrease in local unemployment.

Stats Canada says the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat jobless rate in June fell to 6.2%, down from 6.5% in May.

Local unemployment had been steadily increasing for months, until now. In fact, pretty much every area in Alberta experienced a modest drop in the jobless rate in June.

The Banff, Rocky Mountain House, and Grande Prairies areas sit with the lowest unemployment rate in the province at 5.7%

From a national perspective however, the unemployment rate rose to 5.5%  from 5.4% in May.

Lethbridge-Medicine Hat: 6.2%
Camrose-Drumheller: 7.2%
Calgary: 6.5%
Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House: 5.7%
Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River: 5.7%
Red Deer: 7.1%
Edmonton: 7.0%
Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake: 5.8%
