City of Lethbridge to observe National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II

The City of Lethbridge will recognize September 19th as a national day of mourning to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The municipality says as a result, city hall, as well as the waste and recycling centres will be closed. However, no changes are scheduled to take place when it comes to things like Lethbridge Transit, or any of the municipally operated arenas or community centres.

Meanwhile despite it not being a holiday for most, September 19th has also officially been declared a provincial day of mourning in Alberta. The government is inviting people to take part in an outdoor ceremony in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, and encouraging employers to give employees the opportunity to take part in a ceremony or otherwise mark the occasion of her funeral.
