Lethbridge man facing attempted murder charges in relation to stabbing

A man is facing attempted murder charges in connection to a domestic incident at a south side home last week.

Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) officers responded to a home in the Fairmont subdivision around 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 23 to find a 59-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman with stab wounds — police say an investigation determined the man assaulted the woman and his injuries were self inflicted. Both were taken to hospital and the man has since been discharged. The woman is still in hospital in stable condition, according to police.

BACKGROUND: Lethbridge Police investigate early morning stabbing

Following further investigation, it was determined the male assaulted the female and the injuries he sustained were self-inflicted.

Police say the man cannot be identified to protect the identity of the victim. He is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault by choking, uttering threats and possession of a dangerous weapon.

He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 30.
