Sik-Ooh-Kotoki Friendship Society Pow Wow and Indian Relay go this week

It’ll be a busy couple of days in Lethbridge as the Sik-Ooh-Kotoki Friendship Society Pow Wow and Invitational Indian Relay get underway Tuesday.

The events are being held over at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club.

Lethbridge Friendship Society Executive Director, Travis Plaited Hair, says the festivities are being held in conjunction with a “first of its kind” meeting with representatives from all of the country’s 121 friendship centres.

He says he’s expected 600-700 delegates just for the meetings alone, plus thousands for the other events.

In April, Lethbridge City Council approved $47,500 in the form of a Major Community Event Hosting Grant for the pow wow and races.

It’s expected to bring in close to $1.1-million in positive economic impact.
