Two large drug busts in Medicine Hat in less than two weeks

Two major drug busts in Medicine Hat in less than two weeks.

A four-month long drug trafficking investigation wrapped up on Monday with ALERT investigators seizing more than $42,000 in cash and drugs, including meth, cocaine and fentanyl, from a home and a vehicle.

Staff Sergeant Cory Both says the quantities are significant, adding the 67 grams of fentanyl recovered is one of the larger fentanyl seizures for the Medicine Hat ALERT team.

54 year old Theresa Babitzke of Medicine Hat is facing a number of charges in relation to the bust.

This case follows a record meth bust in Medicine Hat about ten days ago.

In that instance a two month long investigation wrapped up with search warrants at two homes and a vehicle stop along the Trans-Canada Highway near Brooks.

Just over 1.1 kilograms of methamphetamine was recovered which is believed to be the largest meth seizure in the city’s history.

Cocaine, magic mushrooms and illicit prescription drugs were also found … with the total street value of drugs seized nearing $120,000.

A total of 28 criminal charges were laid against five people in that case, four of them from Medicine Hat and the fifth from Edmonton.
