CASA celebrating ten year anniversary with open house and celebration concert

This May CASA will be celebrating its ten year anniversary of the grand opening of Lethbridge’s Art Centre.

In the last 10 years CASA has been the site of various concerts, recitals, plays, cabarets, markets and community events.

Over one million people have visited the centre, over 34,000 users have accessed the centre to make art, over 1,600 art education classes have taken place with over 12,000 participants, and over 300 art exhibits representing just under 1,300 local artists.

The Allied Arts Council is inviting the community to the Casa 10 Celebration open house on May 13th. There will be behind the scenes tours, artist demonstrations, button-making, drawing stations, community painting, face painting, chalk drawing, and printmaking for community members to take part in.

Executive Director of the Allied Arts Council, Jana MacKenzie, says the Casa 10 Celebration will also have some free classes for community members to participate in.

“There’s classes in clay tiles, gelli-plate monoprints that we’re offering classes on, textile art and a class in the dark room making cyanotypes,” says MacKenzie.

“In the dance room throughout the day we’ve got some dance and yoga classes that people can also take.”

MacKenzie says the classes are free but pre-registration is needed and a lot of the classes have begun to fill up.

Then on the evening of May 13th, there will be a Celebration Concert Under the Sails starting at 7 p.m. at Rotary Square where Oscar Lopez will be performing.  Lopez previously played the first concert at the centre in 2013.

The open house will be on May 13th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the Celebration Concert at 7 p.m. Events and activities are free and more information can be found on Casa’s website.
