Town of Coaldale gets grant funding for two projects

The Town of Coaldale will be getting grant funding for two projects including a potable water reservoir and a pedestrian crossing at the Highway 3 and Land O’ Lakes Drive intersection.

The potable water reservoir engineering project will be receiving $525,045 and the pedestrian crossing will receive $544,600.

MLA Grant Hunter attended a press conference in Coaldale on Tuesday where the funding announcement was made. Hunter mentions that the government recognizes how important it is to invest in infrastructure projects that help to create jobs and work to strengthen communities.

“With McCain’s recent announcement of a $600 million expansion to its Lethbridge County facility, there is a need to expand the water infrastructure around Coaldale. A new potable water reservoir will increase the capacity and reliability of the Town’s water supply system, ensuring that the residents of Coaldale have access to a robust water infrastructure as their town grows,” says Hunter.

“Southern Alberta and Coaldale are experiencing a surge in investment and economic growth, and our government is committed to supporting that growth.”

Coaldale Mayor Jack Van Rijn was also on hand for the announcement and extended his gratitude to Hunter for helping to support the projects and secure the funding.

The potable water reservoir and pump station is incredibly important not only to keep up with the towns growth rate but to ensure that there is sufficient storage capacity for both fire protection and sustaining pressure through the water distribution system.

The pedestrian crossing will help to provide a central connection point from the south side of the town to the new recreation centre and high school.
