Scammers take to social media after Lethbridge lottery win

Soon after the news of the largest Lotto Max win in Lethbridge history, fake profiles began springing up on social media trying to take advantage of the news. The Western Canada Lottery Corporation says it has seen impersonators try to scam people on social media in the past by claiming to be a winner giving away money.

“While WCLC can’t control what a winner does with their prize money after it has been paid, it is incredibly unlikely that the first thing a $55 million winner does with their money is share it with strangers on social media,” reads a statement from WCLC.

The Lethbridge Police Service advises residents not to share any personal information or engage in any transaction online without verifying the identity of the person’s profile. “If something sounds too good to be true, it is,” reads a statement from LPS.
