One in custody after police execute arrest warrants at north side home

One person is in custody after Lethbridge Police spent about five hours working to execute arrest warrants at a home in the north side on June 6.

Acting street Sergeant Dave Easter said officers arrived at the home in the 1900 block of 13 St. N around 8 a.m. to execute arrest warrants on a subject known to police.

“We had information that that individual was inside the residence and as a result of the individual not coming out, we had to follow through with our process of ensuring public safety as well as executing those warrants,” he said at the scene after officers had the person in custody.

He added nobody was hurt during the arrest.

A portion of 13 St. Was blocked off while the police tactical unit, as well as a K9 unit, worked to get the person out of the home. They called with a loudspeaker, saying they were under arrest and used a phone attached to a robot to attempt negotiations.

The person was apprehended just after 1 p.m. after officers broke a window and deployed tear gas into the home.

The Lethbridge Police Service says charges are pending.
