The goats are back in the river valley to help with invasive weed control at Alexander Wilderness Park and Indian Battle Park.
The past five summers, the goats have been used and since the programs introduction over 750 hectares of invasive weeds have been grazed.
The goats are brought in twice a summer to indulge in leafy spurge, wormwood, and thistle. The goats are ideal to help control the weeds and vegetation as they’re nimble and can navigate the terrain of the river valley.
A herder and dogs will also be present with the goats to help protect them from predators and residents are reminded to keep dogs out of the area and not to pet the goats or herd dogs when they’re working.
