Special weather advisory issued for Lethbridge region as conditions favourable for funnel cloud producing storms

Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for Lethbridge and surrounding areas as conditions are favourable for a thunderstorm that may produce funnel clouds starting around noon on Tuesday, July 11th and lasting until the evening.

Funnel clouds can be generated by a weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. In most cases, the weak rotation is not normally a danger near the ground but according to Environment Canada, there is a chance this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

Should conditions change into the development of landspout tornadoes, watches and warnings will be issued by Environment Canada.
