River Valley, County fire bans in effect

Warm weather, dry conditions and forecasted winds has resulted in officials issuing an immediate fire ban for the City of Lethbridge River Valley.

According to officials the above factors mixed with low humidity are a recipe for a significant increase to the fire risk in the area.

Residents are urged to use extra caution when disposing of smoking materials because they can ignite dry vegetation and cause uncontrolled fires.

Lethbridge County has also re-issued a Fire Ban, due to an elevated wildfire risk throughout the region.

Under the Fire Ban, all burning is prohibited, including recreational campfires, burning barrels and incinerators, charcoal briquette barbecues, any other open flame (i.e. burn pits, yard waste burning) and fireworks.

Still permitted are:

  • Gas or propane heaters, stoves and barbecues that are CSA approved or UL certified
  • Wood pellet grills
  • Gas or propane firepits/rings that are CSA approved or UL certified

Fines apply for burning during a Fire Ban. To report a fire, call 9-1-1 immediately.
